I sat down at my desk to write this newsletter after thinking of a fantastic topic the day before.
And………………….
………………………nothing.
My brain didn’t even have the decency to throw off a bad topic or something from a previous newsletter. There was just simply nothing. Emptiness. A void.
So, I offer this as a reminder to write it down - whatever "it" is.
I think one of the reasons I struggle with this is that writing it down used to be simple. And, now, it's not simple. We have so many options to choose from. You could:
- Text or email yourself
- Use a notes app an a device
- Find a post it (Gayle had better have laughed at that because we should have bought stock in the companies that make glue for sticky notes given how many of these we have in all shapes and sizes.)
- Grab an old receipt
- Tell one of the electronic overlords in your home to remind you at 8 a.m. (or whatever time) the next day
Why, oh why, is it so hard to do just one of these things? I can literally Dick Tracy whatever the idea is and raise my arm and speak into my watch and have magic happen. And, yet, I didn’t take the five seconds it would take to just WRITE.IT.DOWN.
I think part of the reason it's so hard is that there are so many choices. My biggest choice not that long ago was do I get up and get a pen or not. But, now, I'm overwhelmed by choices. I typically have my iPad and/or phone right next to me and can write things down in an app on those - but then, will I remember to look there tomorrow? Technology is supposed to make our lives easier, but if we don't put systems and processes in place to both limit technology and to use just a few technologies, technology makes our life so much harder by multiplying the number of possible choices we have.
How do you grapple with all the different ways you can do something as simple as just writing something down to remember it the next day? What are your go to ways for capturing information like this? Let's chat in Circle.

What I Published This Week
In addition to hosting the first sessions of the free Shelf Reflection and Intention Setting workshops, I also published a video on using Readwise to transcribe handwritten notes (yet another way I could have remembered what this week's newsletter topic was...)? This went live in Circle on Friday and will be fully live on YouTube next week.
What's Coming Up?
There is a LOT going on in Circle this week.
Knives Out Wake Up Dead Man
Yesterday, we watched the third installment in the Knives Out series. After what I found to be the fiasco of the second installment in the series, they returned to the incredibly intricate story telling with a very, very rich topic and an amazing cast. This was smart, funny, and touching all wrapped up in one ridiculous story.
